Aslan is a smart, spunky 12.35" little sheltie with personality and speed to burn. He's been my pride and joy to train and love. I think Aslan will be my once-in-a-lifetime performance dog. He seems to do everything well. Agility, though, is his true love. Nothing is more fun for him than getting to run an agility course.
Aslan was born on July 25, 2001, at Shangri-La Kennels in Lake Dallas, TX. His breeder, Paula Davis, held him out as a potential performance puppy, and she nailed that on the head!
Fearless as a puppy, Aslan quickly learned how to do basic obedience, and later agility. For his first birthday, I took him for testing for the Canine Good Citizen Certification, and he passed with flying colors. At the age of 15 months, he entered his first agility match, taking a first place in Jumpers with Weaves. He started competing at agility trials at the age of 18 months. At the age of two, he entered his first Rally Obedience competition.
In October of 2004, Aslan qualified for the 2005 AKC Agility Nationals. He also earned his Master's Agility title on the same run in which he qualified for Nationals. And, on that same weekend, Aslan earned over 200 MACH points. It was a big weekend, and I was very proud of my little dog.
Due to my health problems, Aslan was unable to qualify for Nationals
in 2006, but he has quaified for Nationals every year since. He
attended the 2007 Nationals in Sunbury, Ohio, the 2008 Nationals in
Tulsa, OK and the 2010 Nationals in Tulsa, OK..
On Oct. 14th, 2006, Aslan earned his MACH title (Master Agility CHampion) by achieving his 20th QQ. It was one a once-in-a-lifetime experience earning a MACH for the first time with this little guy. Friends helped us celebrate the exciting milestone, and Aslan seemed to know the day was very special. Aslan was the first dog in the Oklahoma City area to earn the MACH title.
In 2008, Aslan earned MACH2 in Ponca City. In 2010, he earned his MACH3 in Carthage, MO. He is now working on his MACH4.
Aslan competes in AKC agility, NADAC agility, ASCA agility, AKC rally obedience, ASCA obedience and APDT rally obedience. He is titled in all of those venues with 35 titles and certifications at the age of eight.
In addition to his competition activities, Aslan has also earned his Therapy Dog International certification.
Aside from agility, Aslan enjoys eating, barking, eating, chasing squirrels, eating, chasing birds, eating and eating. His strong desire for anything food has made training him much easier. He also loves to be talked to, and you can see me at agility trials walking him around the trial sites talking non-stop to him as he listens and barks attentively. He is also a very sweet, loving little dog who sleeps at my side every night, and rules over my other two bigger dogs with both love and authority.
